EXPERIENCE

William Schoeffler is a piano technician and rebuilder working in Northeast Ohio. Originally trained as a pianist, William combined his love of music with his love and aptitude for all things mechanical. He is the owner and full-time technician at William Schoeffler Pianos, LLC and currently serves as piano and fortepiano technician for many institutions in the area, including the Maltz Center for the Performing Arts, Case Western Reserve University, Judson Manor, Hathaway Brown, and University School.


From 2008 until 2017, he served as piano technician at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he was responsible for the tuning, regulation and repair of 63 concert, studio and practice pianos, including Mixon Hall. He has served as the piano technician at the Cleveland International Piano Competition, and at the Aspen Summer Music Festival, where he was responsible for the piano in the Benedict Music Tent. William was responsible for the restoration of the pianos at Mannes College of Music, in New York City, where he performed partial and complete action rebuilds. William has presented lectures at Westminster College (New Wilmington, PA) on the development of the harpsichord, clavichord, fortepiano and piano, and has served as lecturer in Piano Literature at Case Western Reserve University.


He is a member of the Piano Technician Guild and has completed extensive training at the C.F. Theodore Steinway Academy at the Steinway and Sons Factory in Long Island City, New York including the “Concert Technician Seminar,” “Voicing and Tone Production Seminar,” and the “Damper Installation Seminar.” In addition, he has studied at Steinway at Oberlin in Oberlin, Ohio.


Willam holds his Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in piano performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he was a scholarship recipient and received the Zurzban Prize and Victor Babin Prize in Piano. He was a full-scholarship recipient at Miami University, from where he received Bachelor and Master of Music Degrees in piano performance and received the Erickson Prize in Piano. He also is a Pi Kappa Lambda Scholarship recipient and lifelong Eagle Scout.
